THERE are very few people who are given the title “famous son of Bolton”.
But when you say the name “Fred Dibnah” there will be no arguments as the steeplejack was Bolton through and through and his fame continues even after his death.
He was much loved in life and is treasured in death — a man whose love of steam engines brought him fame as he imparted his own knowledge on others through television programmes and books on the subject.
He was a humble man who never really understood just how famous he was but everyone in Bolton did.
