BOLTON’S new Mayor was sworn in at a town hall ceremony packed with the borough’s great and good.
Cllr Elaine Sherrington took over the Mayoral robes and chains from predecessor Cllr Roger Hayes and will hold the office for the next twelve months.
She thanked members in the council chamber for nominating her as Mayor and added: “I’m exceedingly grateful and will work hard to make sure the office of Mayor is conducted to the usual high standard. I’m proud and privileged to be taking on this role.”
Her appointment was proposed by Tory leader David Greenhalgh who said it was an opportunity for “colleagues across the political spectrum to recognise one of our own.” And Cllr Sherrington’s fellow Labour colleague, Nick Peel, said she would bring “enthusiasm and energy” to the role and described her as a “wonderful and unique person.”
