MORE than £400 has been raised by a man who walked the Greater Manchester marathon for charity.

Chris Taylor, aged 39, did the feat to raise money for Fresh as a Daisy, a charity which provides monthly packs of sanitary and personal hygiene products for vulnerable girls and women in Bolton.

He completed the marathon in six hours and 13 minutes on Sunday, April 7.

Mr Taylor said: “I have a congenital heart disease, and a defibrillator implanted in my chest, hence the walking not running. It’s the second time that I have walked the marathon - the first time being in 2014 for the Christie after my mum died. This time I was keen to do it for a small Bolton charity.”

Mr Taylor has raised over £400 for the charity and collected a large number of sanitary products to donate.

A spokesperson from Fresh as a Daisy said: “We’ve had some great support from across the town and what Chris has done to raise money for us and to raise our profile too is fantastic!”

Fresh as a Daisy was set up in memory of former Bolton Council worker Gillian Hughes MBE, who worked tirelessly to support vulnerable women in the town up to her death in 2014.

The charity aims to eliminate ‘period poverty’ by providing disadvantaged females with essential sanitary products and setting up drop-off points in local communities.
