A daughter has paid tribute to her mum, who helped run a popular bridal shop in Bolton.
Judith Stockton, aged 63, died at Royal Bolton Hospital on Tuesday, April 3.
She had been a teacher at Harper Green School for 20 years before joining with daughter Claire Bromilow to open Claire Louise Brides on Radcliffe Road in 2004.
The shop closed in 2017 after 14 years, when Mrs Stockton, a talented seamstress who used to alter the dresses of budding brides, decided to retire.
She was an important part of the community for many years, both in her role within the shop and as a member of the church.
Her daughter said: “She’s been in Bolton all her life and knew so many people. Her faith was so amazing, it played a huge part in her life and it was really important to her.”
Mrs Stockton was a member of the Bolton Catholic Choral group and later Bolton Cancer Voices, she also played an important part in the Society for the Protection of Unborn Children.
Mrs Bromilow described her mother as a “very talented and very gifted woman” who was “a friend to all who met her”.
The mother of four has spoken of the “special moments” the two had shared when being a part of “making that dream come true” for brides-to-be.
After Mrs Stockton decided to retire in January of last year, the shop went on to close in October.
The requiem mass for Mrs Stockton will take place at 11am on Wednesday, April 11, at St Osmund’s, Long Lane, Breightmet, where she attended daily mass.
The family kindly requests donations to Marys Meals in lieu of flowers. All enquiries to Howarth’s Funeral Service.
