LADIES at Bolton Golf Club have raised more than £2,000 for a sight loss charity.
Golfers have teamed up with visual impairment charity Henshaws, which merged with Bolton Society for Blind People last year.
Altogether they have raised £2,231 to go towards running the weekly luncheon club held by the charity.
The luncheon club is held at the Thicketford Centre on Tonge Moor Road.
They are open to anyone with a visual impairments and offer a chance to socialise, meet new friends and join a support group within the community.
Sandra Leatherbarrow, Lady Captain and producer for Newstalk, a talking newspaper for the blind, said: “Bolton Golf Club has a thriving ladies section, where, alongside the golf, members can appreciate conversation around the table over lunch, particularly when rain has stopped play!
“As one of the consequences of visual impairment can be isolation, we decided that funds collected should go towards supporting the local blind and visually impaired; specifically to the Luncheon Club.
“Here people can come together once a week to socialise and keep up to date with developments to help with the practical problems they face.”
The women have raised the money through a variety of different fundraising events.
They held a Halloween golf competition, a Christmas hamper raffle, an Edith Piaf afternoon and a coffee morning.
Justine Watson Smith, Henshaws Bolton team leader said: “We are incredibly grateful for the fundraising efforts of Sandra and the Ladies Section of Bolton Golf Club, the money they have raised will make a big difference to the Luncheon Club and the people who attend.
“It’s fantastic to see the local community supporting the services we provide here in Bolton and helping Henshaws to reach even more people who have a visual impairment in the local area.”
