WEEKEND visitors to Ainsworth took a trip back in time when the village held its annual fun day.
Organisers decided to adopt a 1970s theme for the event on Saturday to mark its 30th anniversary.
Karen Hall, a member of the Ainsworth Village Task Force which puts on the fun day, said: "The first village day was held in celebration of the Queen's Silver Jubilee in 1977, and since then there has been one every year.
"This time to mark our 30th birthday we decided to go back and remember the fashions and music of that era."
As well as the clothes and the music, organisers managed to bring back some of the superheroes of the time. They included Batman, who came with his batmobile, Wonder Woman, Spiderman, Catwoman and Captain America.
Fittingly, they were given a heroes' welcome to the event, being led on to the village recreation ground by Blackburn and Darwen Brass Band, which played the themes the T V series featuring the superheroes.
Mrs Hall said: "We had to have superheroes, they were such a big part of the 1970s. As well as that we had a live band Abba Glamour, and a children's entertainer to make it a little bit more special."
Other attractions enjoyed by the hundreds who attended, included a strong man competition and fairground rides.
All money raised from the event goes to supporting various groups in the village.
Last year those who benefited included the local church, a Christmas lunch fund for pensioners and a playgroup, while some of the money was put back to fund this year's event.
Mrs Hall added: "We start organising the event in April. It is hard work and our thanks go to all the volunteers and sponsors who made it a success. This event brings the whole community together and we were so lucky with the weather ."
