VIDEO footage shows two police cars chasing a stolen car around residential streets.

At one point one of the police car’s dash cams records speeds of more than 50mph before officers pursue it down the narrow streets in Great Lever in the early hours of the morning.

It eventually ends up going through gates into Heywood Park before the driver tries to flee and is arrested by police.

The chase took place from around 12.30am today.

The footage shows the pursuit from College Way and the stolen Volkswagen Tiguan goes through red lights before turning down Fletcher Street.

The car is recorded going at 52mph in College Way but it slows down as it enters the narrow side streets where cars are parked on the road.

The car is then chased down Basil Street, Pilkington Street, Houghton Street, Shaw Street, Rothwell Street and Clarendon Street.

The chase continues down the 20mph at speeds of up to 40mph before it eventually ends up in Recreation Street.

Police continue to follow the car before it slows down to go through a set of narrow gates into Heywood Park.

The video shows the two police cars follow the stolen vehicle into the park and stopping as the driver abandoned the Volkswagen.

Police officers chased after the man as he tried to escape across the park but he was caught and arrested.

Officers said inquiries are ongoing into the theft.
