FIVE people were arrested after they fled from a stolen car following a police chase.

Bradshaw Road, in Bradshaw, was closed in the early hours of this morning while officers, including the police helicopter, worked to find and detain them.

Residents reported a large emergency service presence in the area after the road was closed at around 5.30am this morning.

A Lancashire Police spokesman said the car had been stolen in the Greater Manchester Police area but fled into the Lancashire Police area.

Officers from both GMP and Lancashire chased the car until it ended up in the Bradshaw Road area.

The five men then scattered from the car and the road was closed to allow police to contain the search.

The police helicopter from NPAS Barton was deployed to help with the search and officers managed to find and arrest the people who had been in the car and they were taken to custody for questioning.

A Lancashire Police spokesman said: "There was five arrests. There was a pursuit. The car was stolen from the GMP area and it came on to our patch.

"The helicopter went up. The road was closed to contain the search.

"The car had stopped and they scattered. They shut the road and got hold of them all."

Residents reported more than 10 police cars at the scene and the road was closed from Bradshaw Hall Drive to the junction with Lea Gate and Bolton Road.

People also heard the helicopter hovering over Harwood, Bromley Cross and Bradshaw.

The road reopened at around 6.15am.
