WE continue our look at old railway photographs with a focus on the Bolton to Blackburn line.
Some of the scenes will be familiar to today’s rail users.
One picture shows passengers transferring to a bus replacement service in 1992.
However, this was not caused by work on the line, but by bricks falling from the Sough tunnel on to the tracks.
One of the photographs shows the creation of Hall i’th’ Wood station in the mid 1980s. Entwistle is seen here as a large station with three tracks, rather than the small request halt it has since become.
Another image shows a steam engine powering through Turton in the late 1970s.
