A CAR has burst into flames on a road in Blackrod.
The white Audi R5 TDI set on fire in Little Scotland at around 7.30pm.
It is believed the blaze was started by a mechanical fault in the car's engine.
Two men who had been in the vehicle managed to get out before it became engulfed — suffering no injuries.
The interior of the car has been gutted out by the blaze.
A fire service spokesman said: "Two men were driving along the road when they noticed smoke coming from the bonnet, so he pulled over and it just caught fire.
"The whole vehicle was on fire but they managed to get out of the car.
"They were both shaken up as they had just dropped off one of their's children and wife.
"They were also shaken up by the way it started and the speed it caught fire.
"There is nothing left of the interior."
The scene was attended by fire crews from Horwich with one appliance.
