SMOKE was seen billowing from a town centre car park after a vehicle set on fire.
Firefighters were called to the scene at the car park in Topp Way at around 12.30pm today.
The fire did not spread to any other vehicles but people were evacuated out of the car park and other users were stopped from entering.
The fire was out and under control by around 1.30pm when firefighters left the scene.
Phil Taylor was visiting the town centre had just parked up in the car park when a friend he was with pointed out the car was on fire.
Flames were coming out from under the bonnet and it soon spread to the rest of the vehicle.
Mr Taylor rang the fire service and firefighters arrived on the scene within four minutes.
No-one was injured in the fire.
Firefighters quickly got the fire under control and stopped it spreading to most of the vehicle but the front end was badly damaged.
No cars were parked in the spaces adjacent to the vehicle helping firefighters from stopping it spreading.
The smoke alarms did sound in the building which helped evacuate people using it.
