LENGTHY tailbacks are in place on St Peter's Way after a car caught fire this afternoon.
Firefighters from Farnworth fire station were called out to the incident, which happened on the southbound carriageway, close to Kearsley island, shortly after 4pm.

No one was injured during the incident, but the fire, which started in the engine compartment, has caused extensive damage to the vehicle.

An eyewitness reported seeing 'black smoke going everywhere across the carriageways'.
Police also attended the scene to assist with lane closures, which are currently in place.

A spokesperson for Manchester Fire said: "Fire crews were called shortly after 4pm and extinguished the fire.
"There were no reports of any injuries and we were on the scene less than an hour."
