A MAN suffered serious injuries after a tractor overturned on a busy road.
Police were called to Ramsbottom Road on the Bolton and Bury border at about 4.30pm on Wednesday to reports of the incident.
An ambulance has attended the scene.
Ramsbottom Road was closed between the Red Lion pub in Hawkshaw and the junction with Bury Road and Tottington Road.
A number of cars stopped to help following the accident in Ramsbottom Lane and alert the emergency services.
A spokesman for North West Ambulance Service said the man's leg was trapped and he was suffering from major trauma.
They added he was taken to Manchester Royal Infirmary for treatment and that he had 'quite badly' hurt his leg.
However, he was conscious and breathing at the scene.
One motorist said: “The man, who is in his 40s I think, wasn’t speeding, his wheel just clipped the kerb, it is a narrow road.
“The tractor turned over. I was behind him following him towards Bolton.
“I went to him and he was just screaming get me out. He had injured his leg but said he could feel his toes. I tried to keep him calm and a few of us had stopped and called the emergency services.
“He was talking but the pain would come in waves, I don’t know how much pain he would have been in.
"I stayed until the emergency services arrived."
The driver who was on his way home to Bolton gave dashcam footage to the police, who have launched an investigation into the accident.
