A GRANDMOTER and more than 100 walkers have helped to raise more than £4,100 to support diabetes research.
Ila Shah helped to raise the funds at her fifth annual fundraising walk in memory of her late husband Nanubhai, who had the condition. He died in 2012 at the age of 78.
Mrs Shah, from Great Lever, organised the event which was attended by 148 people, including children from Egerton Primary School, at Leverhulme Park in July.
She said: "I am really proud of all the people who came along and put money in.
"I just really want to say thank you to everyone who supports us. It is so important to be aware of the issues around diabetes and help more people live a healthy lifestyle.
"At the end of the day we have got to improve put health and lifestyle ourselves."
A cheque for just over £4,119 was presented to Diabetes UK by Mrs Shah and fellow event organisers and supporters last month.
