A MAN died from a pulmonary embolism following years of drug use.

Anthony Taffe, aged 51 was found dead at his home in Dalymount Close, Tonge Moor on August 23 this year.

Alan Walsh, area coroner for Bolton West recorded a verdict of drug related death as Mr Taffe died as a result of a pulmonary embolism due to deep vein thrombosis which had been caused by chronic intravenous drug use.

The inquest heard a statement from Mr Taffe's mother, Bernadette Hallam, stating that he had started to use drugs shortly before his 16th birthday and that he mainly used heroin.

When police attended his address on August 23, they found needles in the property.

Police had been alerted to his death after his aunt, Anne Brennan had gone to visit him and when she pressed the bell got no answer.

When she gained access she found Mr Taffe unresponsive and paramedics then pronounced him dead at the scene.
