FORGET making a witch's cape from a bin bag and layering on the eyeliner — Halloween fancy dress fans have been reaching whole new spooky levels in recent years.
Some make up artists in Bolton are poised to create a range of weird and wonderful looks this Halloween.
It is thought the trend for a more extravagant look for parties taking place around October 31 started with the James Bond film Spectre.
Mexican tourism officials were inspired by parts of the 2015 film, which were filmed in Mexico City and featured 007 chasing a villain through a Day of the Dead celebration in the historical centre.
As a result, Mexico City held its first Day of the Dead parade, complete with floats, giant skeleton marionettes and more than 1,000 actors, dancers and acrobats in costumes last year.
This month Festival of the Dead shows are coming to Manchester and Liverpool, meaning there is no sign of the sugar skull craze (pictured below) slowing anytime soon.
Scroll through the gallery above to take a look at some of the frightful creations on offer in Bolton this Halloween - details here:

How long you've been doing make up for: Five years.
Your favourite look for Halloween: Black swan. It’s striking and simple.
What you think the most popular look will be this Halloween: This year will see a lot of gore and blood! People are getting braver. Skulls are always hugely popular as it’s very easy to pair a skull makeup look with any costume. Creepy clowns will be at every party this year thanks to the new “IT” movie. For those wanting to be pretty not scary; glitter and shimmer will be the way. Fairies and mystical creatures.

How long you've been doing make up for: In total for 14 years but I only set my own makeup studio up this year.
Your favourite look for Halloween: My degree was in film, television and theatre so personally I love taking images from horror films and recreating a look. At the moment I’m planning the iconic ‘chestburster’ scene from Alien.
What you think the most popular look will be this Halloween: Day of the Dead Sugar Skulls are popular because they’re still glamorous for a night out (I also hand-make the flower headdress to order in matching colours).
But, on Instagram, the optical illusions and special effects styles are huge at the moment.
