AN elderly man died in a collision on a pedestrian crossing on one of the main routes into Bolton.
At about 7.15pm last night, a green Volkswagen Passat was driving on the westbound carriageway of Topp Way, when it was in collision with with a man who was crossing at the pedestrian crossing.
A 72-year-old man was taken to Salford Royal Hospital by ambulance, where he was later pronounced dead.
The driver stopped at the scene and no one has been arrested, police confirmed.
The 30 mile per hour road was cordoned off by police following the crash and it has now been re-opened.
Officers from GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit are investigating the circumstances surrounding the collision.
PC Paul Shore, of the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “This was a tragic incident and my thoughts are with the man’s family at this terrible time.
“I would ask that anyone who saw what happened or has dash-cam footage to come forward.”
