A MAN claiming to be from Bolton at Home tried to con his way into a house.

A warning has been issued to residents to always check the identification of people who call at the door following the incident in Presto Gardens, Daubhill at around noon on Monday.

A man called at the property and claimed to be from Bolton at Home and said he was there to test the boiler.

The tenant did not allow him in and said that the boiler had recently been tested by Bolton at Home.

The man asked the tenant to test the these water temperature and again the occupant did not allow him to come in.

He then gave the tenant a yellow stick to run under the hot water tap. The tenant did as he was asked and returned the stick to the man at the door.

The conman then left and knocked on other doors on the estate.

He is described as in his late 20s, about 5ft 6in tall, with dark hair.

He was dressed in navy blue and wore a lanyard.

The tenant was not aware if the man arrived in a vehicle.

The incident has been reported to police and residents are urged to not let anyone enter their home without checking for identification.
