FIREFIGHTERS are investigating the cause of a blaze which forced a family to flee from their home.

The blaze badly damaged a bedroom of the house in Princess Avenue, Kearsley, in the early hours of Thursday morning.

No one was hurt in the fire and two adults and a child had escaped the property before firefighters arrived.

Emergency services were called to the house at about 1.50am and were on the scene for almost two hours, putting out the fire and clearing the building of smoke.

The fire started in the parents’ bedroom, at the front of the house, but firefighters managed to prevent it spreading to the rest of the property.

Steve Coote, watch manager at Farnworth fire station, said he wanted to reassure residents in nearby properties that there had been no injuries as a result of the fire.

He added that the cause of the blaze is being investigated.

Firefighters were back in the area yesterday to reassure residents, to offer fire safety advice and to install smoke alarms.

Three fire crews attended the scene, two from Bolton Central and one from Farnworth.

Debris from the fire was in the front garden of the property, including bedding, clothes and shoes and charred pieces of wood.

There was also a smell of smoke in the street.

One resident, who did not wish to be named, said: “I just saw the fire engines outside and the firemen.

“I didn’t really know what was going on. It is just good that everyone is okay.”

Another said that she was watching from her bedroom window and she was glad to hear everyone was safe.
