BUS and rail services in Bolton will be severely disrupted next week during several days of strike action.

Drivers working for First Bus at the Bolton and Rusholme depots will hold a one-day strike on Monday.

Bolton services that would not run include the numbers 2, 8, 36, 37, 68, 471, 501, 507, 510, 511, 524, 561, 562, 571, 572, 575, 582 and the X39.

School services affected will be the 986 to Canon Slade, Y53 St James's Church of England, Y38 Smithills High and Y43 Thornleigh College.

There will also be Northern Rail strikes taking place on Tuesday and on Thursday causing disruptions to services provided by Arriva Rail North.

The majority of Northern services will not run and any that do will be working to a revised timetable.

The list has been published on the operator's website at northernrailway.co.uk/industrial-action

John Fryer, from Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM), said: "We are taking action to minimise the disruption to the transport network; however, the impact is still likely to be significant.

"Our control room will open earlier and work later during this period and we’ll have additional customer service support on the phones and online to help people who have to travel, but our strongest advice is: expect disruption and plan ahead now."
