A DRIVER walked away unscathed after their Land Rover overturned on a muddy road.

Police were called to Grimeford Lane, near Blackrod, at around 4.35pm on Wednesday to reports of a collision.

A silver Land Rover and a blue Audi A3 were involved in the crash and the Land Rover ended up on its roof.

No-one was injured and the driver of the Land Rover managed to get out of the vehicle.

The road had to be closed for some time following the crash.

A police spokesman said no injured were reported but the road was closed until 7.30pm as the vehicle was recovered and the road was cleared. Paramedics did attend the scene alongside police officers from Lancashire Police.

The road connects the A6, just north of Blackrod to Bolton Road to the north of Horwich.

Residents have raised concerns about the 60mph road and the amount of mud that gathers there from surrounding farms.

A Lancashire County Council spokesman said that staff attended in the aftermath of the crash to clear debris from the road and also clear up the mud.

Residents have said the road is often ‘caked with mud’ and have raised concerns as it is quite busy with people using it as a link road.

One resident said: “There is always a lot of mud down there, it is dangerous considering it is a 60mph road.

“ I know a lot of people don’t drive that fast down there because of how muddy it gets.”
