REMAINS found in undergrowth at Leverhulme Park are those of a man, police have confirmed.
Officers were called to the park at about 11.15 am on Sunday after volunteers from conservation group Bolton North East Wildlife Trail found what they believed to be a body.
The remains were found in an area close to Bradshaw Brook, known as the wetlands.
It was taped off by police while they conducted their investigations.
Yesterday a cordon remained in place around the area where the body was found, and police were still at the scene.
Forensic officers donning specialist suits were also continuing their investigations in the cordoned off area.
It is understood that although the body has been retrieved they were looking for anything that could further help them to identify the body, or explain how it had come to rest there.
Two police cars and two Crime Scene Investigation vans were parked immediately next to the cordoned off area.
A Police Tactical Aid Unit van and several other police vehicles were also parked at nearby Leverhulme Park Leisure Centre
A post-mortem examination is being carried out on the body, but police said say they are not treating the death as being suspicious.
A file has also been passed to the coroner to open his inquiries into the death.
