AN elderly man is in hospital after being hit by a car in a 'serious' collision.
At around 7.45pm last night, a black Toyota Corolla was travelling along Bolton Road, Atherton, when it was involved in a collision with a man in his seventies who was crossing the road.
Police and the ambulance service attended and the man was taken to hospital where he is receiving treatment for extensive injuries to his pelvis and a broken wrist.
The driver of the Toyota remained at the scene and no arrests have been made.
The road had to be closed for a number of hours while officers carried out their enquiries but it has now fully reopened.
Police Constable Dermot Murray of GMP's Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “At this time, we’re supporting both the man and his family as we determine the events that have led up to him being in hospital.
“Dashcam footage is a really helpful tool in our investigations so I’m asking those in the area at the time who may have captured the collision to get in contact with us.
“We’ve already spoken to a number of witnesses at the scene but are still trying to piece together the information to gain a fuller picture.”
