A TOUCHING tribute has been left at the doors of the old Palais de Danse.
Former workers and revellers gathered outside the old ballroom in Bridge Street to leave flowers, balloons and cards and remember happy times.
Maggie Gallagher who ran a campaign to save the dance hall was tearful about the building's destruction.
She said: "I've left a card, it says thanks for the memories and we will never forget. They can't take away our memories.
"We lost the fight to try and save it but we will never lose our memories."
She pointed out a posy of pink flowers which had been left by her daughter Morgan with a card saying 'My mum met my dad here in 1976'.
Michael Spedding, aged 46, worked at the dance hall from 1991 to 1994 and said he had a variety of jobs during that time.
He has attached a picture of the team who worked with him to the fencing put up outside the demolition site.
Miss Gallagher, aged 57, added: "I hope they let us keep the tribute up, it's not affecting the traffic or the builders. It's touched thousands of people's lives."
In December 2016 councillors voted to demolish the iconic building and approved an application to replace it with a 150-bedroom hotel and carpark complex.
