Trevor Lester gave us such a detailed answer to our question that we thought you may like to see it in full.
“This is actually looking out through through the “rear gates” of Thomasson (Merehall) Park, with the current registrars’ building (Mere Hall) to your back.
“The terraced street on the left is Halifax Street with Stowell Street behind it.
“The new building in the middle,front is what was St Matthew’s C of E Church with Brownlow Way Precinct immediately behind that.
“This is now the Juniper Close housing estate.
“The mill with the tower is Clyde Mill, and still stands today as home to several businesses, including a cash and carry warehouse.
“The other mill with the chimney is possibly what was Scowcroft’s confectionary works or Gladstone Street Mills,” explains Trevor.
