THOUSANDS of beer enthusiasts will descend on the Macron Stadium for the biggest Bolton Beer Festival yet.

The ever-popular event is returning for the 24th consecutive year and is expected to attract more than 7,000 visitors over its four days.

More than 200 real ales, lagers, ciders, spirits, wine and Prosecco will be on the menu at the festival, which runs from October 4 to 7.

Clive Nightingale, founder of the Bolton Beer Festival, said: "It is great to see the festival go from strength to strength after it started all those years ago.

"It is the biggest social event in the Bolton calendar. It is fantastic craic, and we have hundreds of different beers which people can try.

"Everyone can come down and enjoy themselves and at the same time raise lots of money for a good cause."

All funds are being directly donated to Bolton Lads and Girls Club and the festival is being held at the stadium's Premier Suite once again, following success at the same venue last year.

There will also be a variety of live music and performances adding to the festival atmosphere.

Events and Community Fundraising Manager for Bolton Lads and Girls Club, Kelly McFadden, said: “All the money will go back into the core services at the Club.

"It's getting bigger and bigger every year, which is obviously good for the beer festival and good for us.

“We are grateful to Clive and his dedicated team for the continual support we receive every year.”

Karen Edwards OBE, CEO Bolton Lads and Girls Club, added: “We simply can’t thank Clive and his team enough, 24 years on and the festival goes from strength to strength. The funds raised make a huge difference for us, so I urge you all, come raise a glass or two and support the Club.”

Scoop ale, brewed by Bank Top Brewery to celebrate the 150th anniversary of The Bolton News, has been chosen as the main festival beer.

Organisers are advising those wishing to attend to book their tickets early by visiting the Beer Festival website at beer-festival.co.uk.

For the first time, there will also be a coach shuttle service to the Macron with return journeys available from as little as £2 to help those attending the event.

Coach tickets, the full list of entertainment, and the itinerary for the festival is also available on the website.
