A MUM has hit out at ‘disrespectful’ thieves after paving stones were ripped up from her front path in the middle of the night— for the THIRD time.
Lisa Johnston, had two York stones lifted from outside her home, in Tonge Moor Road, near Canon Slade School, in the early hours of Tuesday morning. Another was smashed in the process.
Her HGV-driver husband Mark, had left for work at 3.10am and the missing stones were first noticed by 13-year-old daughter Isabel at 8.30am—giving a clear indication of when the burglars struck.
The 48-year-old said she believed the theft probably happened while it was still dark.
She said: “It’s such a busy road at most times of day and night I can imagine that even though there was just a five hour window it must’ve been earlier than 6am, because there’s too much traffic otherwise. Although from what I’ve heard these people are very brazen.”
And Mrs Johnston, who is also mum to 17-year-old Robyn, added that she was furious about her path being torn up yet again.
She said: “I just find it so difficult to understand how people don’t have any respect for other people’s property and the fact people work hard for what they have. It’s just total disrespect, that’s the most annoying thing.
“But you know they won’t get caught and will continue to do it and cause misery and hassle for other people.”
And she added that her family was now reluctantly considering increasing security.
“You put things right at your own cost and inconvenience and potentially it can just happen again. I have even thought about going to the lengths of installing CCTV, but I just feel you shouldn’t have to live like that,” she said.
“ You think something that’s set in cement and part of your property and garden is there for good. When you wake up one morning and drop into a mud pile, it’s rather annoying.”
Mrs Johnston posted details of the theft on the Bradshaw and Harwood and Bradshaw Village Noticeboard Facebook group, and other members responded to say there had been similar incidents in the area
The mortgage broker is now urging people to be vigilant and report any suspicious activity.
She said: “Some people have commented about assuming they are workmen.
“Maybe it’s worth asking the odd question or taking the odd photograph of vehicles and hopefully someone will catch these people.
“If someone is genuinely completing a job they wouldn’t have any objections to anybody asking them.”
Anyone with information should call police on 101 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111
