THE PUBLIC has had a brief glance of a piece of Bolton history as workers continue the demolition of the former Palais de Danse this week.
Contractors are stripping away the newer Ikon nightclub facade on the building at the junction of Bridge Street and St George’s Road to reveal the original 1920s Palais brickwork.
Passer-by Chris Brookes took this photograph before workers quickly covered up the Palais sign and wall with a tarpaulin.
He said: “They were instructed to cover it. It’s a shame. The original brickwork looks absolutely fantastic. It would have been nice to see it come back to life again, even just for a few hours.”
Demolition of the building, which campaigners had fought to save, is due to be completed within five weeks to make way for a hotel and car park.
