THE source of the ‘acrid smoke’ drifting across Horwich has been identified.
Neighbours have been complaining about the smoke that has been coming from the Loco Works off Chorley New Road.
The exact location of the burning was revealed to be a rubbish fire on a yard on the site close behind Horwich Car Parts and Horwich Carpets.
It is not currently known who is responsible for the fire and what it is they have been burning.
Craig Rotheram, from Horwich First Community Group, pictured the area of the burning after hearing complaints and driving down to the site.
He said: “I was attending a residents’ meeting and a couple of residents brought it up.
“A couple of days later I was driving along Chorley New Road and I saw the smoke. I went and spoke to some neighbours who live nearby.
“They say it has been going on for a couple of months. one of them had moved here in July and it has been going on since then.
“It is a really acrid smell so I drove around on to the back of the Loco Works and I have been there again and saw the smoke blowing over to the town centre.
“They should not be burning stuff there.”
The burning has been reported to Bolton Council by a resident who lives nearby.
A spokesman said: “We have received a complaint of smoke in the area and have requested the complainant to fill in a log. We will then investigate.”
Those affected should call Environmental Health on 0800 807 060 to report the complaint.
