A ‘BEAUTIFUL’ well cared for baby boy died suddenly and unexpectedly after being put to bed by his mother, who fell asleep next to him.
Zac-Jr David Alldred was born on March 21 weighing 8lbs 13oz and had no problems regarding his development a Bolton inquest was told.
He was described as feeding regularly and in the hours before the devastating tragedy he had been fed by his mother Candice Taylor before being taken to another bedroom because of the warmth and put into a bed rather than his usual Moses basket.
Miss Taylor, of Valpy Avenue, Tonge Moor, got into bed next to him, before being awoken by the baby’s father Zac Alldred, who was in a panic after finding the baby unresponsive.
They also have a four-year-old daughter.
Despite CPR and the efforts of the medical staff at the Royal Bolton Hospital, he was pronounced dead on the morning of May 3.
A post mortem examination could not find a cause of death, with findings concluding it was unascertained. There was no evidence of injury or trauma to the baby.
Dr Ghauri Bahtra from Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital said: “I could not find anything with what is available to me in present day medical science.”
The inquest heard that co-sleeping can be a risk factor and affects male babies more than female babies.
Area Coroner Mr Alan Walsh said risk factors should be avoided.
But he added: “I cannot say co-sleeping caused Zac’s death.
“There is no rhyme or reason why some babies sleep with parents without problems and other suddenly die. It is important to be aware of factors.
“He was a beautiful baby boy who was developing as he should.
“The home he lived in was a good home
“I give you credit for how you look after both children.”
Mr Walsh recorded an open conclusion.
