A MOTHBALLED plant that has been unused for eight years could be demolished this month.
The Hanson concrete batching plant, just outside Bolton town centre, was closed in 2009 and bosses have decided not to take out a new lease on the facility.
The Mill Hill Street site was used for the manufacture of ready-mixed concrete since the 1970s, but was closed after the 2007 financial crash.
Hanson has now given notice to Bolton Council that it intends to begin demolition work at the site between September 11 and 30.
A statement sent to the council said: “Currently Hanson is able to meet customer demand from its concrete plant in Westhoughton. However, the landlord has now served notice to renew the lease, but market conditions do not provide sufficient economic justification to enter into a new lease and the plant itself now needs significant investment.”
