TRAINS are due to start running again between Bolton and Manchester tomorrow.
Services have been suspended on the railway line for weeks — first due to upgrade works being carried out at Bolton station, then because of a burst water main at Moses Gate station.
After the burst caused a railway bridge to collapse, it had been expected that the line would remain at least partially shut until October to allow the complex repairs to be carried out.
However, transport bosses revealed last week that engineers had completed enough repairs to allow the railway to re-open fully this Wednesday.
Work to stabilise the embankment and complete repairs to the bridge will continue at Moses Gate.
Although a completion date for work to repair Bolton Road is still to be confirmed, it is expected to re-open within the original six week estimate.
Prior to the bridge collapse, normal train services were due to resume on August 28 following a two-week shutdown for electrification work.
