A THIEF has been caught on camera stealing 28 pints of milk from a care home that helps look after elderly people with dementia.
Staff arrived at the Bakewells Care Home, in Junction Road, Deane, on Thursday morning to find no milk at the front door where it usually was for the cooks to use for that day's food and drink.
A call was placed to the dairy asking why it had not been delivered and was told that it had, so staff then checked the CCTV footage.
The images showed a man arriving around three minutes after the milk delivery at 5.10am.
He is seen standing by one of the gates and looking around the post.
The man is then seen coming up to the front door to look what was there before walking away and coming back again a minute later with a bag and putting the eight two litre bottles of milk inside before fleeing the scene.
Andy Morgan, managing director of Morgan Care, the company that runs the home, said: It is for their tea and everything. It is so annoying that these people have the nerve to do what they like. It is a care home for people with dementia. The most vulnerable people in our town. Where is people's moral sense in this day and age?"
Staff reported the incident to police on when they discovered that the milk had been taken on the CCTV.
A police spokesman confirmed that the incident has been reported to them and they are looking for a white man, in his twenties who was wearing a hoodie when the theft was carried out.
The milk was soon replaced but Mr Morgan was also concerned about the impact on staff.
He said: "It is also the fact that the staff feel a bit nervy. We have got staff in through the night and there is this guy creeping up to the door."
Police are appealing for information on the incident, anyone who knows anything should ring 101 and quote incident number 905 of September 1 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
