A VIDEO shows a brazen thief rummaging through a car after he smashed the window in broad daylight.
The footage was shot from an office over looking the car park at the rear of Bank Street in the town centre and shows the thief going head first through the window and reaching so far in that at one point his feet leave the ground.
The incident took place on Tuesday afternoon, while its owner, Jade Riley, was working in Bolton.
She returned from work to find the front driver side window smashed and a note on the windshield from the person that made the video.
Fortunately, all the thief managed to grab was a pair of gym trainers, a top and a draw string bag.
The window has since been fixed but Miss Riley has raised concerns about what happened and why something was not done to stop it.
She said: “The video is only really short but you can hear them saying there is a parking attendant present who did nothing. A colleague spoke to the same attendant this morning and he said the cctv cameras that they hace are dummies.
“People leave their cars on this particular car park in the knowledge that their car will be looked after.”
Miss Riley has been sharing the video on social media to raise awareness of what happened.
She said: “I thought it would be good to raise some awareness as apparently it has happened in that area near the river. It’s so unsafe walking down there in winter, gangs of youths hang about down there and it isn’t well lit.
“It would be good if they could actually install working cameras down there as it won’t be long before something really serious happens.”
She said it was frustrating that while she was working hard during the busiest time of the year, this man was out ‘stealing a living’.
While Miss Riley had left all the bags under the seat of the car, people are reminded to leave possessions out of view when they are not in their vehicle and to remove valuables.
The site is listed as being operated by Euro Car Parks and The Bolton News has contacted the company for a comment.
