PLANS to install zebra crossings outside 14 schools are not a precursor to removing crossing guards, the council has promised.
Responding to a question from UKIP councillor Paul Richardson, Cllr Nick Peel said that the council strove to a ‘higher standard than your accusation’.
He added: “Because road safety is extremely important to us, we have rolled out 20 mph schemes across the borough, have installed new flashing warning signs in the vicinity of schools, and are about to replace and upgrade the driver feedback signs.”
The borough’s crossing guards were saved from cuts earlier this year .
