CONFUSED beer lovers are calling for answers after Oktoberfest Bolton was cancelled without explanation.
The event was due to be held at the Macron on Friday, October 27 and Saturday, October 28.
But on Friday, customers who had bought tickets were told by Eventbrite that Oktoberfest Bolton had been cancelled and their money would be refunded.
The email contained no explanation as to why it was not going ahead and Eventbrite said customers must contact the organiser to find out further information.
But the Oktoberfest Bolton website has since been taken down, as has the Facebook page, leaving no way for the customers to get in touch.
Nick Holt, from Lostock, was going to the event as part of a friends' reunion and the group has booked two tables for about £380, plus a booking fee, working out at about £40 each.
The 27-year-old said: "We purchased our tickets through the website. We had booked two tables and altogether it was £380 plus a booking fee.
"So all the money had been collected but then we were sent an email by Eventbrite who said that the event was not going ahead.
"There was nothing on the website. It was still up but it has now been taken down.
"We have not had an email or anything about why it has closed so I am really not sure.
"One of the guests was going to come up from London. I know that these things happen, we don't know if it has been double booked. Nobody has explained the situation.
"It is really disappointing."
Neil Ward, who was part of the same group and had organised the payment, said friends were returning to Bolton from as far as Colombia, and had planned to attend.
He said: "We'd seen the event advertised in various places so a few of us signed up to get the news directly.
"Once tickets were released a couple of us booked two of the VIP tables at a cost of nearly £400 on Saturday night.
"It was all booked in. Several friends made arrangements around children, returning to Bolton from all over the world to take part in our reunion.
"And then literally out of the blue last Friday, we had an email from Eventbrite to say the event is cancelled. The refund has yet to be received and absolutely no explanation as to why.
"It has left us all really annoyed, and obviously those who had made special plans are in a very difficult situation.
"We just want answers to what has happened and why it has been cancelled totally out of the blue.
"We have since noticed that the website is down and Eventbrite can't give us any information. All in all, a disgrace."
Staff at the Macron have been asked for any information on the cancellation, although it is not responsible for organising the event.
