A CAR crashed into an empty pub in the early hours of the morning.

Emergency services were called to The Gypsy's Tent pub at 1am this morning to a silver Toyota Corolla, which had crashed through the scaffolding on the building.

Crew manager Andy Bolton, said: "The car has gone into the scaffolding, through that, and into what is the main entrance to the pub.

"The driver wasn't injured and when we arrived he was out of the vehicle in the ambulance getting looked over."

Firefighters were called to make the area in Spa Road safe and called in a specialist crew to assess the building before the car was pulled clear.

Mr Bolton said: "The doorway is stone brickwork and a chunk had been knocked out, we just wanted to make sure the rest of the wall was okay."

Part of the brickwork has been replaced with wooden blocks and the scaffolding has been taped off.

The man, understood to be in his 40s did not require hospital treatment.
