THE chef who took over at one of Manchester’s most renowned restaurants at the end of last year was one of the biggest draws at the Bolton Food and Drink Festival.
Adam Reid, chef patron at The French at The Midland Hotel, showcased his culinary skills at the Regional Chefs Marquee in Corporation Street.
He showed a packed out tent how to make a tasty turbot dish while talking about his own favourite foods and what makes a great dining out experience.
After completing the exquisitely presented dish he spoke to The Bolton News about how he had enjoyed his first visit to the festival.
“I loved it, it was brilliant. It’s my first time in Bolton, but I’ve known it’s been going a long time.It’s got such a brilliant reputation.
“It’s backed by all the top chefs, and just walking around last night I could see the size and scale of it. It’s amazing.”
The Manchester-born chef said he was in no doubt of the positive impact it brings to Bolton.
“Food culture is an amazing thing in society, it builds a better society and all round areas,” he said.
“Some areas idolise food and those have grown up around food culture and it’s important to maintain that.
“I think a lot of places around Britain have lost that and if we can all get people interested in eating well, I think society will be a lot better as well.”
He added that chefs and audiences benefit from food demonstrations.
“For a chef doing this, on one side it’s about your profile, people hearing your name, on the other side it’s just showing people you can cook good food easily.
“I don’t do things specifically how I would do them in the restaurant, that’s a high end restaurant with nine specific people cooking.
“I do things in a way they can do at home.”
Mr Reid had to race back for service at The French after his demonstration.
But said he was hoping to come back for a look around the stalls with his wife and young son, Henry, adding that the children’s attractions were a great pull for young families.
“We can come and bring Henry and he can be entertained and we can have a look at the rest of the festival at the same time,” he said.
