'I DO' could become an 'I don't' at Amir Khan's luxury Deane wedding venue as plans for the £5 million venture could take a change of course.
The Bolton boxer has hinted that the multi-million pound banqueting hall could become anything from a school to a university.
Builders were working on the Washington Street site as far back as February 2015 but recently it has ground to a halt.
Speaking about the future of the building, which had been due to open in May, Khan hinted at the venture going in a completely different direction.
He said: “There are a few changes made on it and we have taken a bit of time to look at working on a new project there.
“I have been so busy in America and everything, I want to make when we do something here it is right.
“Whether it be a wedding venue or school, it will be something for Bolton whatever is there.
“I’m in two minds in taking it forward as a school, high school or possibly part of the university. It is not easy but I’ve been talking to a lot of people and I am driven to do something for the town.”
He added that the site was not up for sale but could not confirm when work would start again.
Once open, the original intention for building was to be able to stage wedding receptions and business conferences in a 620-seater buffet restaurant.
The development was to contain a restaurant and bar on the ground floor, an 800-seater function hall on the second floor, a VIP restaurant and breakout area on the second floor, a roof terrace and 51 parking spaces.
