A STREET food café chain described as an ‘Indian Starbucks’ is coming to Bolton.
The new Chaiiwala franchise promises to spice things up when it opens in Deane Road next week.
The tea room chain, whose name means ‘tea artist’, will offer customers ‘a sip of India’ as well as a variety of light snacks and sweet treats from the sub-continent
Sohel Seedat, who will be running the café with brothers Omar and Usman Ahmed, said the chain prided itself on its distinctive Indian tea.
He said: “It’s a very hot, milky, spiced tea, that’s quite sweet as well.
“And we do other stuff as well, Indian snacks like spicy chips, samosas and we do different chapatis, some with Nutella, some with honey glaze, we do it with a twist on Indian street food.”
Bolton is not short of places to grab a brew and a bite to eat, but Mr Seedat said he was confident Chaiiwala had something different to lure people from the more established names.
He said: “It’s almost like an Indian Starbucks, that’s how I see it. The unit we have got for it is sizeable, and for the amount of money we have spent it should be a nice, relaxing environment.
“Everyone knows Starbucks and Costa, we’re not going to pull everyone away, but we’re hoping to open some minds up, especially being near the college and university.
“And with the location we have got we will aiming for the Asian market, but we want to address everyone as far as we can, to be honest.
Chaiiwala began as a takeaway in Leicester and now has six outlets across the east and west midlands, also including Derby, Birmingham and Peterborough.
But the Deane Road café, due to open on Monday, will be the chain’s first in the north of the country.
The outlet, which will create 10 new jobs, seats about 30 people and also provides parking for customers.
The most expensive item on its menu is the Desi Breakfast (£4.50), snacks cost between £2 and £3, while the different varieties of tea are priced at £1.50.
