A DERELICT church was damaged in a fire.
Fire crews were called at around 7.30pm last night to the church in Astley Bridge Cemetery, Eden Street.
Ian Reed, watch manager at Bolton Central fire station, said that somebody had set fire to the building and the vestibule was 'all burnt out'.
He added that crews had to carry out a search for persons as there was concerns rough sleepers were inside.
Nobody was found inside and crews left the scene after around an hour.
Mr Reed said: "Right up int he middle of the cemetery there is a derelict church. Someobdy had set fire to that. What a shame really. It is a lovely building."
