BOLTON’S young voters have become the centre of attention in the aftermath of the General Election.
The BBC’s Newsnight programme featured a number of young voters in the town who chose Labour over the Conservatives last week, after a high turnout among 18 to 24-year-olds was identified as a key factor in Jeremy Corbyn’s success.
Pharmacist Thorrun Govind, who had previously voted Conservative at the 2015 General Election, told the show that she had been given “hope” by Labour’s manifesto and trusted the party to protect the NHS.
The show also spoke to a number of 18-year-old pupils at Turton High School, who were voting for the first time, as well as competitors in the Bolton Hill Marathon and Astley Bridge Conservative councillor John Walsh.
Cllr Walsh said that the Tory campaign was probably the worst he had seen, adding that Mr Corbyn “outplayed” Theresa May.
