I am currently researching my family tree. This has led me to a Bolton connection and I'm wondering if anyone can help me with my search.
In the 1901 English census my great grandfather William Thomas was living in Newton-in-Makerfield, with his wife Emily, his daughter also Emily (b 1900) and his son William Jnr, my Grandfather (b 1901).
Also in the house, as lodgers, were his brother, John (Jack) Thomas (b 1880) and his uncle David (b 1850). The three adult males all give their place of birth as Coedpoeth.
The daughter, Emily, moved to Bolton in service at the Boar's Head, and married Albert Harrison, and had a son Dennis.
In the 1891 census my great grandfather, William lived in Brynteg with his parents John and Ellen Thomas.
John (b 1846 Broughton), Ellen (b 1848). William's siblings are Hannah (b 1875), Jane (b 1877), John (Jack the lodger listed in 1901 and Emily's uncle), Mary (b 1882), Dora (b 1884), and Emma (b 1890).
The Thomas family must have lived in Brynteg, quite a while as they are listed in the 1881 census, when Jack is 11 months old.
My great grandfather's youngest sister, Emma, moved to Bolton and that's when I lose all trace of her. The only other information I have about Emma is that before she moved to Bolton, in 1901 she was living in Tyldesley with her mother, Ellen, and her sister Dora.
Emma's sister, Dora, married John William Riding and moved to Newton, and had three children, Albert, Sam and Doris. John was killed on the first day of the Somme, and is buried at Beaumont-Hamel cemetery, just south of Arras.
Emma's brother, Jack Thomas, settled down in Newton, he married Hannah Maria Maney, they had four children, John Jnr, William, Jane and Ellen. Jack died during the First World War in September 1918 and is buried at Terlincthun, near Boulogne France.
If anyone has any information, and would like to get in touch, I would be most grateful.
