THE cause of a fire in a bin in an office is unknown.
Firefighters from Farnworth were called out to tackle burning rubbish in a waste paper basket at a business premises in Egerton Street, Farnworth, on Sunday at 10.45pm.
The tenant renting the premises said the cause of the miniature blaze was likely one of two things.
He said either a nearby heater had tripped a fuse and burned out or an ember from a burning wood pile outside landed on a discarded cigarette packet being used as a ash tray, setting a half-stubbed out cigarette butt alight.
The crew from Farnworth Fire Station were on scene for half an hour extinguishing the fire and dispersing the smoke.
The tenant said: "It was barely even a fire."
