HUNDREDS of people have signed a petition objecting to plans by UKIP to hold its national spring party conference at Bolton Wanderers' Macron Stadium next month.
Last week The Bolton News revealed that new leader Paul Nuttall had confirmed that the first conference under his leadership will take place at the Macron on February 17 and 18.
UKIP has enjoyed success at a local council level in Bolton this year and the party has held several high profile events at the home of the Whites.
However, some people are unhappy with the news and a petition has been launched which demands that Bolton Wanderers scraps the event.
The petition was created by Bolton resident and Wanderers fan Ryan Quick, who stated: “Much of the divisive rhetoric that UKIP employ is aimed at immigrants and we believe that any support from the established brands of the town laughs in the face of our citizens, many of whom are themselves immigrants or descendent of.
“We demand that Bolton Wanderers re-evaluate the relationship they currently have with UKIP and as such encourage them to suspend their support of the parties National Conference.”
In response, the leader of Bolton UKIP , Cllr Sean Hornby has invited Mr Quick to attend the conference and meet new leader Paul Nuttall.
He said: “Of course people have the right to express their opinion but this conference will be good for Bolton and the local economy.
“It is happening and I would like to invite Mr Quick to come along and meet our new leader.”
