I have a postcard from family at 82 Dobb Brow, Westhoughton, with a signature Gertie & Tom (date 1976).
My grandmother Dorothy Seddon (b November 24, 1883) came from Aspul, Wigan. She married William Wilcox (b. October 10, 1882) in 1898, who was also from Wigan, Scott Lane.
My grandfather was a miner and my grandmother worked in the cotton mills.
I would be interested to hear from anyone who may be related to either of my grandparents.
I know that William's father's name was George, his mother was Annie Snape, and he had two sisters, Nellie and Sarah.
My grandmother's parents were John and Caroline Seddon (nee Baldwin), and she had a brother Peter and a sister Harriet Alice. H arriet married William Ainscough, also from this area.
Harriet and Dorothy married at St Elizabeth's in a double wedding ceremony in approximately 1898.
We have only a small amount of history about the English family and my generation is the surviving generation, the eldest having been born in 1933.
If anyone could help me, I would be very grateful Fax: New Zealand 09 439 5565 carjoy@ihug.co.nz
