DANCERS have been shaking their stuff to soulful rhythms all in aid of charity.

A Northern Soul Dance event saw thousands getting down to the beat in Blackpool last month.

The May Bank Holiday dance off over featured more than 1,000 Northern Soul devotees taking to on the Comedy Carpet in beautiful sunshine for four hours to raise money for for Cancer Research UK.

This is the second time the dancers have descended on Blackpool for the fundraiser organised by Bolton northern soul enthusiast Phil Macdougall.

Mr Macdougall, from Heaton, is supported in organising the event by his son Neil Macdougall, from Westhoughton, and event manager and DJ Paul Wilkins, from Adlington.

Bolton College of Art was got on board this year with students creating a large canvas painting of a Northern Soul dancer in action which was then auctioned at the event and brought £120 for Cancer Research UK.

A pen and ink drawing of Wigan Casino as pictured in 1977 was donated by Ian Whitehead, of Bolton.
