THREE arrests have been made following a shooting in a garden in a residential street.
After a man known locally as Dale was shot in the chest on Saturday, a 21-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder today, and a 39-year-old woman and a 45-year-old man were arrested on suspicion of perverting the course of justice.
DI Clare Devlin, of Greater Manchester Police’s Salford division, issued the following statement: “We believe this is linked to other recent violent incidents in Salford between two organised-crime groups in Little Hulton.
"Enquiries are ongoing and police are appealing for anyone in the area at the time or anyone with information to come forward. We are particularly keen to speak to anyone who may have seen a silver Peugeot driving around the area at the time.”
She said: “We have dedicated extra patrols in Salford to try to prevent further incidents from taking place and offer reassurance to the community that incidents like this will not be tolerated."
Dale was shot outside an end-of-terrace house in Mill Hill, Little Hulton.
The road was then cordoned off at its junction with Greenheys Road. He was taken to hospital and was said to be stable last night. It is understood Dale lives in the same road as the gunman and was in the front garden of a different home when a car drew up and shots were fired.
One man told The Bolton News: “I heard the gunshot. I heard this screaming and bawling.”
He said he saw a man clutching a bloodied arm in the aftermath.
Another resident said: “I think it was a targeted attack. It is quiet round here.We get a few fights but that is it.”
Saturday’s shooting is the latest in a series of gunfire incidents in Little Hulton linked to an ongoing feud between rival gangs.
Shots were fired four times in seven months in Crescent Drive, the last being in January, 2015 when a shotgun was fired and damaged a window.
Then officers responded to reports of shots being fired at a house in Thornfield Grove in August.
One weekend in October saw a wave of violence that began with a 48-year-old man being shot in the back through the window of a house in Mossbrook Street. Later that evening shots were fired at the windows of homes in Worsley Road, Farnworth, and Gorse Drive, Little Hulton — two streets away from Mossbrook Street — although nobody was injured.
A 34-year-old man was shot three times on his doorstep in Coniston Avenue on October 5.
The same Gorse Drive home was targeted for a second time in March when a gunman walked up to a property, aimed a shotgun at the front door and squeezed the trigger before running off.
Anyone with information on Saturday’s shooting is asked to call police on 0161 856 9403 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
