POLICE have sealed off open land after a man's body was found.
Circumstances surrounding the death are still unclear, but the body was discovered at dawn near the southern end of Smith's Road, Darcy Lever, close to the Manchester Road slip road off the A666 in Farnworth.
A GMP spokeswoman said: "Police were called shortly after 6.25am on Friday March 25 to Smith's Road in Great Lever.
"Officers attended and discovered the body of a man.
"An investigation has been launched to establish the circumstances leading to the man's death."
The police are unable to confirm if the death is suspicious or non-suspicious at this stage.
The scene is rather isolated woodland that lies over the road from Smith's Lodges fishing lakes and rubbish can be seen in the undergrowth.
The spot has been cordoned off with police tape and is being guarded by a police van containing a single officer.
Rubbish can be seen in the undergrowth.
