HOLLYWOOD stars enjoyed the red carpet — at a Bolton school.

Sylvester Stallone, Marilyn Monroe and even Darth Vader were just some of the stars of screen to attend the first Walmsley CE Primary School Oscars.

Bringing a touch of Hollywood glamour to the last day of term was the idea of trainee teachers on the School Direct scheme to inspire and recognise the hard work of young people so far this academic year.

They have been leading special Hollywood themed events all week to develop pupils' multi-media and creative skills, including making short films, including designing sets.

On the last day of term, children, who had earlier in the week received their 'gold invitation', were invited to come as their favourite film stars to take part in first Academy Awards hosted by the school.

The school was transformed into a glamorous venue for the ceremony, where nominations for awards included Oscar for the best decorated classroom, best opening scene and other fun awards as well as outstanding achievement certificates.

Award winners received their own Oscar statuettes.

The stars enjoyed a special Oscars themed party lunch, with a special cake.

And no award ceremony would be complete with the "after show" parties, with the young award winners celebrating their success throughout the afternoon.

Headteacher Debra Carr said: "Each winner made a speech, thanking their goldfish to the window cleaner.

"Everybody just had a lovely day. The children were very excited about and loved it.

"The paparazzi turned up and we had the red carpet out for the stars at the VIP entrance."

She added: "The trainee teachers did really well and rose to the challenge.

"Nobody knew who had won until the gold envelope was open and there was a party after the ceremony."
